Dear Readers:

 

Thanks to a strong drive for research in the TTU scientific community and great contributions from the faculty members, Tan Tao University Review (TTU Review) is pleased to announce that TTU Review, Issue 5 has been released.

In this fifth issue published in December 2018, the final month of the year when TTU has various bustling activities, instructors from all Schools regularly submitted their articles to TTU Review, making Issue 5 available. The TTU Review Board would like to appreciate all the instructors for their great research drive and contributions.

Notably, with continuous efforts in researching, in 2018, TTU’s School of Medicine has achieved excellent results with 14 topics and research projects in the field of cardiovascular. Not only medical professors but also students contributed to the results of those studies as co-authors, making abstract reports at international conferences and their reports were published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Admirably, Prof. Thach Nguyen with his co-researchers had “Complex coronary bifurcation treatment by a novel stenting technique: Bench test, fluid dynamic study and clinical outcomes” published in WILEY journal, DOI:10.1002/ccd.27494. Other medical professors, namely Prof. Truong Le, Dr. Huyen Doan had their individual articles published in domestic medical journals. Also, Dr. Khanh Doan, a professor of pharmacology has still been working on a project funded by Vietnam National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED).

Prominently, in September 2018, Dr. Truong Nguyen from School of Biotechnology co-authored “Silver and gold nanoparticles biosynthesized by aqueous extract of burdock root, Arctium lappa as antimicrobial agent and catalyst for degradation of pollutants” published in Springer Nature 2018, DOI:10.1007/s11356-018-3322-2. Besides, School of Biotechnology contributed one more article on matrix metalloproteinase by Dr. Quang Ta.

Other professors, namely Dr Dung Cao from School of Engineering, Mr. Jonathan Lankford and Mr. Nhon Dang from School of Humanities & Languages also contributed articles to TTU Review from their respective expertise.

Once again, TTU Review would like to thank you all the TTU professors and students for their fruitful scientific research activities. The Review hopes to receive more of the support and contributions in the future.

Background: Cardiac biomarkers play an important role in early diagnosis of Acute Myocardial Infraction (AMI) with high morbidity in the affected and a significant mortality rate in coronary artery disease patients in order to prevent major complications and death. Traditional cardiac markers such as CK (creatine kinase) – MB isoform (CK-MB), cardiac specific troponin I start to rise in blood stream too late. Hence the search for a novel biomarker for myocardial infarction (MI) which if highly specific and sensitive especially in the first few hours of MI is necessary.

Objectives: The main purpose of present study is to find the diagnostic value of Heart Type - Fatty Acid Binding Protein (H-FABP) in the diagnosis of AMI and comparison of its diagnostic accuracy with cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and CK-MB.

Materials and Methods: This prospective and cross-sectional study was performed at Cho Ray hospital HCMC from June 2017 to May 2018 with 216 subjects. In all of them, 179 diagnosed AMI patients were follow up and treatment at Emergency Deparment, Heart Surgery Deparment, Internal Cardiology Department, Cardiology intervention Department as well as 57 healthy subjects from Outpatient Department. H-FABP was analyzed with automated MindrayBS800M by Immunoturbidimetric assay. Also, analysis of CK-MB and Troponin I was done. In addition to, the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and receiver operating characteristic curve were evaluated and compared with CK-MB and troponin I.

Results: H-FABP was released to blood stream and reached the highest concentration in 6-12 hours after chest pain (169 ng/ml the sensitivity was 96,4%) and decreased gradually. The specificity of H-FABP was 100% and higher when compared to CK-MB and troponin I at any period of study time. Within 0-24h, the combination of H-FABP, CK-MB and troponin I together had the highest sensitivity (97,2%) and the specificity was 80,7%. The cut-off value of H-FABP of AMI patients in our study was 5,7 ng/ml with 90,5% for the sensitivity and 100% for the specificity. The area under the curve was observed to be 0.99 with 95% confidence interval, which was higher than CK-MB (0,92) and troponin I (0,86) within 0-24 h (p<0,001).

Conclusion: H-FABP can be used as an early diagnostic cardiac biomarker in the early detection of patients with AMI  within 12h.

Bệnh rám má hay còn có tên khác là nệnh nám má là một bệnh mắc phải, hay gặp và dấu hiệu điển hình là các mảng tắng sắc tố có tính chất đối xứng, xuất hiện trên vùng mặt, cổ. Bệnh gặp ở nữ nhiều hơn nam và thường gặp trên các chủng tộc có màu da tối hơn. Nguyên nhân gây bệnh có nhiều và thường xen kẽ, nguyên nhân chủ yếu là do ánh sáng mặt trời và thay đổi hormon. Tỷ lệ mắc bệnh nói chung thay đổi tùy theo số liệu thống kê và thay đổi theo các vùng địa lý và dao động trong khoảng 1-50%. Xét về mặt mô học, các tổn thương ở lớp thượng bì và trung bì, biểu hiện chủ yếu là tăng số lượng tế bào sản xuất hắc tố, tăng các túi hắc tố, tăng elastin, đôi khi có xâm lấn tế bào lympho quanh các mạch máu vùng trung bì. Về mặt điều trị, rất nhiều loại thuốc bôi ngoài da, tiêu biểu như hydroquinone, tretinoin, corticosteroids hoặc công thức bộ 3 cũng được hay dùng tuy nhiên các loại thuốc này thường có các hiệu quả điều trị rất thay đổi. Ngoài các loại thuốc bôi, hiện tại các thuốc dùng đường uống như tranexamic acid, glutathione hay polypodium leucotomos cũng dành được nhiều sự quan tâm. Ngoài ra, các liệu trình điều trị kèm theo như bong da hóa học, siêu phi kim, sóng radio hay dùng laser cũng được sử dụng kết hợp để tăng hiệu quả điều trị. Background: Database of frequency the alien of 15 gene Identifiler systems of Chinese people in the southern provinces has never been explored before, but has profound implications for science and practice.

Object and Method: collecting random blood samples from 100 individual Chinese people living in Ho Chi Minh City and 7 provinces in Southern Vietnam including Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, An Giang, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu. All collected blood samples were stored at - 20°C. Conducted a genetic analysis according to the assessment process has been standardized (TCVN-AN 2013) of the Criminal Science Institute. Genomic DNA was extracted from blood samples using Chelex 5% method.

Results: from 100 genotypes of 100 Chinese people (guaranteed random representation, complying with the conditions of population genetics law) have found 11 rare alleles not in the international standard scale system. There are 06 rare and possibly alleles that are unique to the United States that are not found in other populations, such as the 11.1 alleles (D7S820 locus), 15.3 alleles (D19S433 locus), 29.3 alleles; 31.3; 32.3 and 33.3 (D21S11 locus). Of the 15 loci of the genes examined, the D21S11 locus also had the highest individual tracing value (high polymorphism with the number of alleles of 18. These alleles are traits of individual traceability and affirmation such as blood relationship.

Background: Houttuynia cordata Thunb is a medicinal plant that has many therapeutic properties. It has long been used in the treatment of bacterial diseases in humans, animals, and fish.Aim: Isolate and identify some endogenous bacteria in Houttuynia cordata Thunb which have antibacterial activity against human pathogenic bacteria as well as have the ability of protein fixation and IAA synthesis to stimulate the plant growth.

Object and Method: Houttuynia cordata Thunb collected in three places of Soc Trang province. Houttuynia cordata Thunb is separated by leaf, stem, and root, and is isolated on the PDA medium to obtain the endophytic bacteria of Houttuynia cordata Thunb

Results: Twenty-eight endogenous bacteria strains have been isolated from Houttuynia cordata Thunb sample grown in Soc Trang province. The TS7 strain is capable of synthesizing the highest amount of ammonium (3.30 µg/mL). The maximum IAA production was 8.51 µg/mL (due to the synthesis of RS10). Twenty bacterial strains have the ability to dissolve the unpasteurized phosphate. The result of

antibacterial activity test on Escherichia coli and Aeromonas hydrophila has shown that there are 13 strains against Escherichia coli, 05 strains against Aeromonas hydrophila, and 04 strains against Escherichia coli and Aeromonas hydrophila.Conclusion: Three bacterial strains are identified at the species level by 16S-rRNA sequence solving. The RS4 strain is identified as Bacillus subtilis (98%), the TS7 strain has a 98% of homology with Bacillus cereus and the TS9 strain is 91% homologous to Bacillus megaterium.

Mở đầu: Microalbumin-niệu được xem là chỉ dấu sinh học có giá trị để phát hiện sớm biến chứng thận trên bệnh nhân đái tháo đường type 2.

Mục tiêu: Chúng tôi tiến hành khảo sát giá trị microalbumin-niệu trên bệnh nhân đái tháo đường type 2 điều trị ngoại trú tại Bệnh viện Quận 2.

Phương pháp: Nghiên cứu được thực hiện trên toàn bộ bệnh nhân được chẩn đoán đái tháo đường type 2 được chỉ định xét nghiệm microalbumin-niệu trong thời gian điều trị ngoại trú tại Khoa khám bệnh - Bệnh viện Quận 2. Số liệu thu thập từ tháng 02/2017 đến tháng 10/2017.

Kết quả:  Nghiên cứu được thực hiện trên 211 bệnh nhân, nữ chiếm tỷ lệ 66.4%, nam chiếm 33,6%. Tuổi trung bình là 60,9±10,2, bệnh nhân nhỏ nhất là 33 tuổi, lớn nhất là 97 tuổi. Tỷ lệ bệnh nhân đái tháo đường type 2 có microalbumin-niệu dương tính là 60,2%. Tỷ lệ MAU tăng dần theo thời gian phát hiện đái tháo đường, điều này có ý nghĩa thống kê với p<0.05. HbA1c càng cao thì tỷ lệ MAU (+) càng lớn (p=0,035<0,05). Độ lọc cầu thận ước tính càng nhỏ thì tỷ lệ MAU (+) càng cao (p=0,014<0,05). Không có sự khác biệt có ý nghĩa thống kê giữa MAU và các chỉ số nồng độ glucose huyết, creatinine máu và các thông số lipid.

Kết luận: Tỷ lệ bệnh nhân đái tháo đường type 2 có microalbumin-niệu dương tính là 60.2%. Thời gian mắc bệnh càng lâu thì tỷ lệ MAU (+) càng cao. HbA1c càng cao thì tỷ lệ MAU (+) càng lớn, độ lọc cầu thận ước tính càng nhỏ thì tỷ lệ MAU (+) càng cao.

Based on Lakoff and Johnson (1980)’s cognitive metaphor studies, Talmy (1983)’s gestalt-oriented analyses, Langacker (1986)’s cognitive semantic approach, and the mental space theory, the writer would like to touch on some of the basics of cognitive grammar assuming a concept in semantics. Cognitive grammar holds a view that the grammar of a language is not a long list of formal structural rules, but rather a result of human cognition that allows speakers of that language to seek to structure ideas for their communicative intent. Grammar is thought to reflect experiences in generalization, and schematization of mindset and perception of the world, helping recognize our ability to construe situations that are understood the same but expressed in different ways. Because of making sense of the expressions, all grammatical elements, in cognitive grammar, are attributed to a certain conceptual content. Therefore, grammar is “symbolic” in essence. Cognitive grammar is viewed to pay less attention to the processs of constructing structures, but more to schematization of the accepted structures and symbolization of the conceptual content. The success of cognitive grammar is associated with the language acquisition, schematization of the process of construction, categorization of expression, as well as our perception of the world.
